Where I've worked, what I've done

After a few years at the school of hard knocks, I began my professional career as a copy editor at a community college newspaper. Along the way in my career journey from news journalism to tech marketing to corporate messaging, I've developed a pretty solid toolbox for a wide variety of content and communications disciplines.​​​ For more examples of my work, please see my portfolio page.

Senior Manager, Partner & Alliances Content & Messaging
2021-2024

I led global messaging and brand positioning for VMware’s Cloud-Smart Ecosystem of 28K partners, coordinating across partner organizations and business units to drive ecosystem messaging to, with and through partners. As a founding member of the trailblazing and award-winning VMware Marketing AI Council, I co-wrote a whitepaper for partners on how to use generative AI in marketing. I gave a TED-style talk on my proprietary portfolio messaging strategy for a companywide marketing summit in 2022.

Dell Technologies
Senior Advisor, Global ESG Marketing Lead

2019-2020

I led global marketing for a portfolio of ESG and employee engagement initiatives in pursuit of Dell's "moonshot" goal of delivering enduring benefits to 1 billion people worldwide by 2030.

  • Global campaign manager, Dell Transforming LivesResponsible for raising global profile of Dell Social Impact ESG programs and portfolio of 60-plus nonprofit partners worldwide. Led campaign development and launches for Dell Student TechCrew and Digital LifeCare.

  • Global internal marketing lead, Dell Employee Empowerment: Drove participation in volunteerism and philanthropy by 150K employees. Led campaigns for initiatives supporting COVID relief, racial equity and Dell Pro Bono skills-based volunteering.

I served IBM's technology partner ecosystem of nearly 170K companies in a variety of marketing and program management roles across various product and industry segments.

  • Senior Partner Marketing Manager, North America | IBM Storage, Jan-Aug 2019: Led marketing of IBM’s largest channel portfolio through 30+ strategic partners. Responsible for $4B+ in co-marketing pipeline and $1B+ in win revenue in 2019.

  • Partner Marketing Manager, Americas | IBM Watson Financial Services Solutions, Jan-Dec 2018:  Responsible for co-marketing and business development in North and Latin America for industry portfolio. Executed recruiting workshops for prospective partners.

  • Product Manager | IBM Value Package, Mar 2017-Dec 2017: Led product strategy and marketing for subscription-based partner benefits package with $7M in annual sales. Served as team lead for 5 direct reports.

  • Content Strategist | IBM Global Business Partners, Aug 2016-Mar 2017: Led content strategy for IBM partner executive conference and launch of refreshed partner portal.

Global team lead, editorial operations

2015-2016

I served as the editor in chief for B2C marketing campaigns and as the content business owner on enterprise-wide digital marketing transformation initiatives, including CMS selection and migration. I led cross-functional editorial alignment with internal stakeholders, including the Whole Foods Market Foundation.

2013-2014

I led editorial production and content strategy for a publisher of retail investment journalism. I managed the flagship website with 13M annual visitors and a newsletter portfolio with 85K subscribers. I tripled content output in my first quarter and led content syndication with business media outlets such as Yahoo Finance, Forbes, Barron’s, and others. I edited a roster of 12-15 freelance investment analysts and wrote a style guide.

2006-2012

I first worked for my hometown paper in summer 2004 as a Dow Jones News Fund intern. Before taking a buyout in 2012, I was leading nightside print production as a slot editor.

  • Slot editor, 2010-2012: As supervising nightside editor on daily print editions, served as central collaboration point for newsroom content production. Final editorial reviewer on all copy. Cross-functional coordination with 12 departments across newsroom, advertising and operations. Supervised as many as 15 editors and designers per edition.

  • Business copy chief, 2008-2010: Managed daily production of business news section and weekly production of long-form weekend content. Served as senior reviewer for work efforts by reporters, columnists, page designers and first-line editors. As newswire editor, compiled daily business briefs.

  • Insight copy chief, 2008-2012: Managed weekly production of Sunday section devoted to long-form first-person perspectives and thought leadership. Served as senior reviewer for work efforts by reporters, columnists, page designers and first-line editors.

  • Copy editor, 2006-2008: Served as general-purpose editor across news, business, sports, lifestyle and op-ed sections, and special editions.
